Express Labs
A DOT drug and alcohol testing platform that keeps transportation companies compliant — running a random-testing consortium of roughly 30,000 drivers with a testing network of 20,000+ collection sites nationwide.
The challenge
FMCSA regulations require transportation companies to enroll drivers in a drug and alcohol testing program, run random selections, document everything, and survive audits. For a small trucking operation, that's a maze of paperwork; for a consortium managing it on behalf of thousands of companies, it's an operational mountain no off-the-shelf software was built to climb.
What we built
Fragment Labs built the platform Express Labs runs on: member enrollment and account management, online test ordering with real-time status tracking, collection-site lookup across a nationwide network, and the random-selection engine at the heart of the consortium. Members handle their compliance from one portal; the paperwork that used to take days assembles itself.
Under the hood
Compliance software has an unusual requirement: it has to be provably correct. Random selections must be defensibly random, records must be audit-ready, and nothing can fall through the cracks. The platform is built around that standard — automated where automation is safe, human-reviewable where the regulations demand it, and deployed on cloud infrastructure that keeps it available around the clock.
Where it stands
Express Labs serves a consortium of roughly 30,000 enrolled drivers today. Fragment Labs remains its long-term technical partner, evolving the platform as regulations, the business, and the industry change.
